As per the data available from the Government of India, our country will witness over 130 million first time voters in the 2019 general elections. In a setting like this, it is important that our conversations centre on how to make the citizens aware of the significance of voting and create a sense of civic responsibility among them.

In order to facilitate the same, on 26th February 2019, Jagran Lakecity University & Josh Talks in association with Facebook, organized “The Citizens’ Town Hall” – a dialogue that hopes to bring about a change. Through the panels, the aim was to bridge the gap between our diverse, impactful community and leaders who implement the change. The thing that distinguished this event from any usual dialogue is that every edition concluded with the policymakers taking pledges to formulate measures that lead towards a better tomorrow.

The event started with Mr. Abhijit Agarwal, Joint CEO – Election Commission for MP addressing the issues plaguing the credibility of EVM machines. He further went on to highlight the importance of voting and encouraged the audience to use this power to bring about a change. Mr. Agarwal further provided various solutions on how a voter can easily get registered in the city that they are living in.

A panel discussion was held later wherein RJ Anadi from Big FM, Mr. Anil Mudgal – Founder, Arushi Foundation and Ms. Rolly Shivhare – State Coordinator, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) discussed the importance of voting among youth and why youth should come forward to become the change they want to see in the society.
